Mayweather (39 0, 25 knockouts) vs. Marquez (50 4 1, 37 KOs) live blog:
Refresh this page often for minute by minute updates.

Juan Marquez has entered the ring to the cheers of his fans.

Floyd Mayweather is entering the ring as well, led by the WWEs wrestler
Triple H on his right.

Wearing a white jacket cut off at the shoulders with a blue hood,
Mayweather is being booed by the partisan Latino crowd as he approaches
the ring with out any music.

The crowd begins chanting Marquezs name, even before Michael Buffers
"Lets Get Ready To Rumble!!!!"

Marquezs loudly cheered, as expected; Mayweather booed, yet again.

Round 1: Referee Tony Weeks gives instructions. The fighters begin at
ring center. Mayweather tries to strike first, leaping in and missing
with a left hook. Then Mayweather lands a jab, after which Marquez digs
to the body. Mayweather is coming forward and lands a left hook. Marquez
looks bewildered and is apparently already troubled by Mayweathers speed.
During a clinch, Marquez takes advantage by clubbing Mayweather twice to
the head. Later, however, Marquez misses with a right hand. Mayweather
steps in and lands a left hook, and Marquez misses wildly. Mayweather
blocks three punches by Marquez. Another Mayweather left hook lands as he
steps in before the bell. Mayweathers round, 10 9.

Round 2: Mayweather still has Marquez fighting from a distance, and is
establishing his jab and a lead left and a hook. Marquez livens up the
crowd with an overhand right that lands. A perfectly placed left hand
catches a walking in Marquez flat footed and with his legs squared.
The punch deposits the smaller man on his butt at 1:35 of the round.
As he rolls like a turtle over his back toward his head, his feet fly
toward the cieling. Marquez rises on wobbly legs. Another hook lands
for Mayweather, as Marquez begins to reach with his punches. Another
left hook, and then, a right lands for Mayweather. Clearly, Marquez is
at a disadvantage and has not begun to press, as he said that he would.
Mayweathers round, 10 8

Round 3: Mayweather continues to come forward behind the jab and the
hook, and Marquez continues to retreat. Marquez lands an overhand right,
but doesnt follow it up. Marquez eats a jab and cant counter because
Mayweather effectively covers up. The jabs three straight are
problematic for Marquez, who fails to take advantage of a brief moment
when Mayweather goes to the ropes. Marquez lands a right over the top,
but Mayweather jabs and maintains his distance. Mayweathers round, 10 9

Round 4: Harold Lederman has Mayweather ahead 30 26, or three rounds to
none as does FanHouse. Roger Mayweather tells Floyd Jr. "Youre whupping
his [butt]." The fourth round is the same Marquez retreating,
Mayweather, pursing. Marquez continues to miss as Mayweather eludes him
when he comes forward. Marquez lands a one two on a ducking Mayweather,
but the undefeated fighter goes back to jabbing again and re establishes
his tempo. Mayweather takes two straight right hands that bring cheers
from the crowd, but in reality, it is Marquezs right eye that has begun
to drip blood. Like a shark, Mayweather steps forward and begins to take
aim at the eye with the jab. Mayweathers round, 10 9

Round 5: Mayweather appears to be taunting Marquez by leaning forward
and dropping his hands. Marquez fails to make him pay. Pumping the jab,
patiently, Mayweathers strategy simply continues. While Marquez leaps
in and miss, Mayweather leaps in and lands a left hook, then a right hand.
Its target practice for the pot shotting Mayweather. Another left hook
lands as Mayweather spins away from the ropes, and his jab and a hook end
the round. Mayweathers round, 10 9.

Round 6: Trainer Nacho Beristain tells Marquez that he has to throw more
punches because Mayweather is winning. Mayweather appears to be stepping
up the pressure behind the jab. The crowd begins to chant, "Mexico," but
Marquez does not appear capable of rewarding them with any significant
response. Instead, Marques is jarred by a right and a left hook. Marquez
looks puzzled. Briefly on the ropes, Mayweather takes three harmless
punches on the arms, but soon is backing up Marquez. In a neutral coer,
Mayweather punishes Marquez with about seven unanswered punches. After the
bell, he retus to the coer. Trainer and uncle, Roger Mayweather, tells
him, "Thats what I told you to do." Mayweathers round, 10 9.

Round 7: Tony Weeks asks Marquez between rounds if he wants to continue.
Marquez answers to the affirmative. Lederman has the fight scored, 60 53,
or a shutout for Mayweather, as does FanHouse. Mayweather takes a right to
the jaw, but clinches and winks at the HBO ringside commentators that hes
okay. Two jabs, a right hand as well as a left hand get to Marquez. Marquez
lands while Mayweather is on the ropes, but he escapes further harm and
continues to dictate the pace with impunity. Marquez goes to his coer and
is implored by Beristain to throw more punches. Mayweathers round, 10 9

Round 8: The crowd starts to chant Marquezs name, but the Mexican former
champion continues to retreat. The blood from his right eye appears to be
bothersome as Mayweather continues his assault with the jab. Three punches
are all blocked by Mayweather, who coers Marquez with three jabs.
Marquezs head continues to be knocked backward like a bobble headed figure
by the piston like punch. Mayweather avoids reaching rights and lefts by
Marquez. With about 10 seconds left, Mayweather covers up on the ropes and
beckons for Marquez to come forward. Marquez does, but Mayweather blocks
all of his punches. Mayweathers round, 10 9.

Round 9: Mayweather appears to be sitting down on his punches as his jab
grows more fierce. Mayweather lands a hard left hook and blocks two by
Marquez, who simply can t land except to the body when Mayweather is close.
Mayweather engages Marquez, lands to two uppercuts and a right hand, and
then, fires another combination that shakes Marquez. Marquez winces after
taking a hard right and a left hook at the bell. On his stool, Marquez looks
completely lost. Mayweathers round, 10 9

Round 10: Lederman has the fight a complete shutout nine rounds to none
for Mayweather, who lands a hard left jab and right with about two minutes
left in the round. Mayweather begins to press and land even more frequently,
even as five straight punches miss by Marquez. Marquez eats two more hard
jabs along the ropes. Mayweather lowers his guard and Marquez still can not
land. At the bell, Mayweather drills Marquez with a lead right that knocks
his head back. Mayweathers round, 10 9

Round 11: Mayweathers shoulder defenses allow him to block four straight
punches by Marquez, after which he answers with a hard right to Marquezs
jaw. Landing punches is futile for Marquez, who continues to be pummeled by
counter punches. Mayweather hammers home another long, lead right hand to
Marquez along the ropes. There appears to be blood dripping from Marquezs
nose. A three punch combination shakes Marquez, as does a leaping left hand
before the bell. Mayweathers round, 10 9

Round 12: It appears that the futility of their efforts has sunken in for
Marquezs coer, as the fighter is told by Beristain to "Finish with
dignity." The proud, Mexican champion goes forward, but is jarred by a left
hook. Marquez then goes back to retreating. A left hook, over hand right
combination knocks Marquez off balance. Mayweather loads up on two lead
rights behind a pawing jab. A hard right pops Marquezs head backward, yet
again. Marquezs right eye is bleeding profusely as he tries in vain to
land against Mayweathers defense. On the ropes with 20 seconds left,
Mayweather hammers home two more shots. Mayweather pumps his right hand in
the air as the bell rings. He knows the result, as does everyone in the
crowd. Mayweathers round, 10 9

Michael Buffer announces the unanimous decision: Judge Burt Clements had
it 120 107, Dave Moretti, 119 108, and, William Lerch, 118 109, all for
Mayweather. Mayweather lost only three rounds total between the three
judges.
