The application codenamed GSTOOL 3.1 has been designed as structural back up for implementing the BPM. It covers the entire process from IT structural analysis through to the award of the IT Baseline Protection Certificate. Its central function is twofold: firstly to enable companies, public authorities and other institutions to determine the measures required for certification, and secondly to provide a means of checking and controlling the implementation of those measures.
Once the various components of a set of IT assets (IT systems, networks, applications etc.) have been established and classified, GSTOOL can be used in tandem with the recommendations of the BPM to construct a model containing all the modules and safeguards stipulated by the Manual for that specific set of assets.
